Nabire, 23 September 2025 – The Central Papua Provincial Government through the Education and Culture Service confirmed that the All Day School (SSH) Program will start rolling in early October 2025. This program was previously launched by the Governor of Central Papua at the commemoration ceremony of the 80th Indonesian Independence Day, 17 August 2025.
Initial Phase Implemented in 10 Schools in 7 Districts
Head education authorities and Central Papuan Culture, Nurhaida Nawipa, explained that the initial implementation of SSH will take place in 10 schools spread across 7 districts. For Puncak Jaya Regency, the government is still focusing on socialization so that the program can run well.
"In the initial stage, we are prioritizing schools that are in the 3T category and have a high population of Indigenous Papuan (OAP) children," said Nurhaida, after the signing of the MoU between the Central Papua Provincial Government and UNIPA, Tuesday (23/09).
In its implementation, the University of Papua (UNIPA) will deploy a special team to accompany the schools receiving the program. This is done so that the implementation of SSH goes according to plan and provides real benefits for students.
What is All Day School?
So, what is All Day School (SSH)? All Day School is the Governor's policy which implements teaching and learning hours from morning to evening and is facilitated by dormitories and supported by food. This is motivated by the problem of limited access to schools, stunting and high school dropout rates.
As explained by the Head of the Data and Information Section of the Central Papua Province Education Service, Deni Tenouye, All Day School (SSH) is a model of educational innovation with the implementation of teaching and learning hours from morning to 12.00 noon following the existing school schedule.
Meanwhile, from 13.30 until the afternoon, it will be filled with method activities from SSH with teachers from Papua State University (UNIPA) collaborating with local staff selected by the Central Papua Province and Regency Education Services.
The SSH concept was also put forward by an academic at the University of Papua (UNIPA), Dr. Agus Sumule. According to him, SSH not only extends study hours, but also provides a boarding school atmosphere that emphasizes discipline and character formation.
"Essentially, the curriculum remains the same. However, the principles of boarding schools, such as discipline, character formation and holistic development, are what are brought to ordinary schools," he explained at the SSH Implementation Coordination Meeting in Nabire, July 31 2025.
He emphasized that SSH aims to provide equal opportunities for all Papuan children, including those living in remote areas.
"Children in villages should not be different from children in cities. Everyone must have equal access to education," he stressed.
